Join us for a talk and film presented by Jonathan Sells, the Sculptor behind Wareham Market’s statue. The statue was created to celebrate 700 years of Wareham Market and 100 years of Cottees Auctioneers.

Jonathan will share the challenges and story behind the making of the statue, taking us on a creative sculptural journey that brought the history and spirit of Wareham Market to life!

Stone Carving Day at Bishops Caundle, Dorset

Learn to stone carve in a full day with renowned stone sculptor Jonathan Sells. Take home your stone carving and new skills on completion. No previous carving experience needed, all materials and tools provided, along with expert tuition.

The stone carving days take place in a beautiful farm setting in North Dorset. Tea and coffee provided, but please bring a packed lunch.

Rollington Barn, Purbeck Art Weeks (PAW) 2025

On 4th and 5th June, Jonathan was at Rollington Barn for Purbeck Art Weeks (PAW), working on a stone carving relating to Corfe Castle. Jonathan was also representing Burngate Stone Centre, where he is a stone carving tutor.

Additionally, Jonathan had two of his latest carvings on display: two Egyptian-inspired birds, taking their inspiration from Horus, the ancient falcon-headed god, and carved in Portland stone.

Jonathan will be teaching ‘taster’ relief stone carving sessions, at Guggleton Farm Arts on Saturday 7th December 2019.

The lessons are £20 each and last two hours, plus £5 for stone.

You’re welcome to stay for more than one lesson and beginners are very welcome.

Stone carving workshop times are as follows:-

  • 10am -12 noon
  • 12.30pm – 2.30pm
  • 3.00pm – 5.00pm
